Teorētiskais pamatojums sastāv no 5 sadaļām.
The subject of the Bachelor’s Thesis and the research is “Nurse participation in the health care of newborns in the general practitioner’s practice”. Grounds: The health and health care of a mother and child is one of the key aspects of public health. A healthy child is a pre-condition for a healthy society; therefore, promotion of child’s health has a positive impact on the health of the society in general. Everything happening with and around a newborn is unexperienced and new for him or her. It means that the first month of life is time for adaptation and of great importance for the child, his or her parents, and all other persons involved in the care. The Author considers that nurse working at a general practitioner’s practice should participate qualitatively in taking care of a newborn since nurse is the second point of contact, right after general practitioner, and can educate parents on various issues related to the health of newborns. Purpose: To establish participation of nurse in the health care of newborns in the general practitioner’s practice. Hypothesis: Answers provided by nurses and parents of newborns about nurse participation in the health care of newborns in the general practitioner’s practice differ. The theoretical part consists of 5 sections discussing topics like newborn hygiene, first visits at healthcare specialists, safety of newborn and risks of falls, breastfeeding, effects of tobacco and alcohol on newborn. The research part is based on two respondent groups: the nurses working at general practitioners’ practices and the parents of newborns. Method: The research was conducted according to the quantitative research method. The research tools used are two survey forms created by the Author. The survey group consists of 60 nurses working at general practitioners’ practices and 60 parents of newborns, a total of 120 respondents. The research describes how often and where health care procedures of newborns are carried out, what procedures are performed, and what are the topics discussed with the parents. Conclusions: Nurses confirm, but parents deny that nurse performs various procedures related to the health care of a newborn and educates parents on various topics related to taking care of a newborn. The answers provided by nurses and parents of newborns regarding participation of nurse in the health care of a newborn in the general practitioner’s practice differ, thus confirming the hypothesis.en-UK
