Summary of the Doctoral Thesis(Latvian Academy of Sport Education, 2010) Gulbe, Antra; Jansone, RasmaThe main aim of education is to form free and creative personality, achieve that the society and every member of it is responsible for himself/herself, his/her state and higher human and moral values. The realization of main task of education in study process should be organized in such a way that it connects studies with life, integrates study subjects to develop key competencies, necessary in life. In the conception of the Development of Education from 2006 to 2010 is defined the aim of education, at the basis of which is „(..)create for everyone possibilities to form as a mentally and physically developed, free and responsible creative personality”. From this statement can be drawn conclusion that creative personality is one of the fundamental aims of contemporary education, and, in its turn, one of the aims of basic education is to provide conditions and give opportunity for every student as a personality to store the experience of creative activity. Creativity is necessary in the selection of content and offer; in choosing, developing and approbating appropriate methodology, in securing beneficial pedagogic environment, in communication. Without creativity it is impossible to imagine also the education of the whole society, so that it is able to live in nowadays changing conditions. The changes of the system of education influence not only Latvia. In the states of the world education is considered to be main means in performing essentially important task: prepare youngsters for life, so that they can take responsibility, understand multicultural environment and life in it, purposefully predict their activity and career for economically independent life, be able to live in a society based on knowledge and creativity. Contemporary students should acquire thorough knowledge, attitudes and skills, be ready for real life activities of human being of the XXI century. The components of readiness are independence, responsibility, experience of activity and social experience. The aim of Olympic education is the development of harmonious personality, promote the formation of society, caring for, securing and defending honor of the personality. Olympic education is a set of educating events, introducing Olympic ideas and basic values, enabling people to develop themselves physically and mentally. Nowadays many organizations in the world are engaged in developing, disseminating and explaining Olympic ideas. In the schools of many states already for several years is being implemented a Program of Olympic education, which is improved from year to year. The Program of Olympic education, as pointed out by several authors (Buller J., Coffmann J., Hsu L., Pyun D. Y., Shakhverdieva S., Stauffer P, Georgiadis K.), has been carried out and has proved to be necessary in many states of the world: Canada, Russia, the USA, Greece, Australia, France, Spain, Norway. Involve society, especially youngsters, in Olympic movement is a problem, because there is a lack of information and motivation. These considerations indicate the necessity to educate youth, explaining and propagating the ideas of Olympism and Olympic movement. The behavior of children and youngsters depends not only on knowledge, but mainly on the organization of study process, therefore should be formed such system of incentives, which should induce youngster interest about ideas and values, which they would like to take after in their behavior. Olympic education promotes implementing the ideas of Olympism, honest and respectful behavior not only in sports, but also in everyday life. Popularization of Olympic principles, ideals and aims of the Olympic movement has been carried out in several directions: both regarding the professionals of this branch and sports journalists and fans, students, with an aim to involve more people in Olympic movement, because the society, especially youngsters, lack information, motivation, and resources for physical activities. In the world the target audience of Olympic education is children and youngsters. The experience shows that the realization of Olympic education usually gives positive result. Every child, irrespective of ethnical and gender issues, likes sport, games and competitions. Engaging into sports activities, the children can be taught such values as the concept of fair game, sportsmanlike behavior, respect and mutual understanding.
