Abstract: Pētījuma nosaukums: Vecāka gadagājuma cilvēku pieredze ekrānierīču izmantošanā ikdienas dzīvē, to ietekmējošie faktori.
Title of the study: The experiences and key factors of screen use in everyday life among the elderly. Objective: The rapid technological development has affected the way people nowadays communicate with each other, obtain information, and perform daily activities (Bucci, S. et al, 2019). Screen devices make a major contribution to everyday activities and hobbies (Blok, M. et al, 2020), as well as to healthcare, where text messaging, voice messaging, and game-based mobile applications can change health behaviors and improve self-efficacy (Changizi, M. et al, 2018). While some seniors would be willing and interested to incorporate technology into their daily lives, they face concerns and barriers that prevent it. Older people face problems using digital devices due to lack of support, instruction, Internet coverage, motivation, financial status, lack of cognitive and physical abilities (Vaportzis E et al, 2017). Aim of the study: To study elderly people’s experience and the influencing factors of the use of screen devices. Methods: Qualitative, phenomenological research, in the framework of which three focus group discussions were held - in the capital of Latvia, in one of the Latvian cities and villages - in Riga, Rezekne and Luznava, where one focus group consisted of 5-6 aged 65 and over. Focus group discussion data were processed by transcribing audio recordings. The transcribed text was then analyzed using inductive content analysis, Results and conclusions: During the analysis of the interviews, the experience and views of the elderly on the use of screen devices in everyday life were clarified, as well as the factors influencing their use. All study participants have previous experience in the use of screen devices. All respondents have a TV at home, own a mobile phone, which for the majority is a smartphone. Factors contributing to the incorporation of screen devices in the daily lives of the elderly surveyed are the support of the people around them, necessity and interest, the desire to keep up and take advantage of them. Barriers to the use of screen devices in the daily lives of the elderly surveyed include lack of finance, fear of making mistakes, cognitive impairment, lack of self-motivation and time, hearing and vision impairments, reduced finger dexterity and lack of support.
