| lv-LV |
dc.description.abstract | Title: The methods used by physiotherapists and their experience using them when working with subacute COVID-19 patients Background: Long term health complaints may persist after acute COVID-19. The need for evidence-based physiotherapy is highlighted in order to minimise and prevent sequelae after COVID-19 infection. Objective: To find out what methods are used by physiotherapists and their experience using them when working with subacute COVID-19 patients. Methods: The study’s design was a quantitative cross-sectional study. The study involved certified physiotherapists working in outpatient and inpatient settings with COVID-19 patients over the last two years. The questionnaire used in Scheiber et al., 2021 study about effective implementation of pulmonary physiotherapy in rehabilitation following a COVID-19 infection was carried out electronically. Results: The questionnaire was completed by 29 respondents. One fifth (20,7%) of respondents rated their experience in respiratory physiotherapy as very good. The majority of respondents considered that expiratory (86,2%) and inspiratory (75,9%) techniques were very important for the treatment of patients with sequelae after a COVID-19 infection, and 51,7% of respondents rated their experience in performing expiratory and inspiratory techniques as very good. More than half of respondents (55,2%) considered that using strength and endurance training was very important and 44,8% of respondents rated their experience in strength and endurance training as very good. Less then half (41,4%) of respondents considered the use of postural drains and approximately a third (31%) of respondents vibration techniques to be very important, but only 27,6% of respondents rated their experience of using these methods as very good. Less than a fifth (17,2%) of respondents considered the use of chest percussions to be very important, but 20,7% of respondents rated their experience performing them very as good. Conclusions: From the methods mentioned in the questionnaire (Scheiber et al., 2021) inspiratory and expiratory techniques were used more frequently when working with subacute COVID-19 patients. The experience in performing inspiratory and expiratory techniques were rated higher by respondents, but experience in performing chest percussions – lower. | en-UK |
