dc.description.abstract | Ievads. | lv-LV |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction. Personal protective equipment is one of the most important epidemiological measures to reduce the spread of the virus. Healthcare personnel were at greater risk of infection, so wearing medical masks and respirators became the standard procedure in many conditions. Allergic contact dermatitis is usually a rare reaction to the use of face masks, but the recent Covid-19 pandemic has forced healthcare workers to use PPE for more than 6 hours and repeated them, which increases the chance of side effects. The aim. Summarize the results of studies reporting facial allergic reactions to the use of PPE during the Covid-19 pandemic. Materials and methods. Literature sources from the PubMed and Google Scholar databases were collected and systematized using the keywords: mask, health care workers, covid 19, allergic reaction, contact dermatitis, irritant dermatitis, personal protective equipment, dermatoses, case report, respirator, N95, FPP2, N95. After reviewing the summaries and reviewing the full text, only articles related to the use of PPE during Covid-19 were obtained and analyzed. Results. The study concluded that there was a significant increase in occupational dermatitis among healthcare workers during the pandemic, including allergic and irritant contact dermatitis. Increased wearing time of face masks was found to be strongly correlated with allergic facial reactions. FPP2 / N95 respirators are more likely to cause allergic reactions than surgical face masks. The most common contact allergens in PPE are rubber accelerators, formaldehyde and metals - cobalt and nickel. Conclusions. In order to suggest safer alternatives, contact sensitisers potentially present in face masks and other protective equipment should be labeled and easily identifiable. Application tests, which were not performed in most studies, would be a good complement to further studies. | en-UK |
