Abstract: Anotācija Bakalaura darbs tika izstrādāts ar mērķi noskaidrot infekcijas kontroles drošības aspektus ķirurģijas māsu darbā. (European Centre for Disease Prevention and control, b.g) Pētījumā tiek pielietota kvantitatīva pētījuma metode.
Abstract The Bachelor’s thesis was developed to clarify the safety aspects of infection control in the work of surgical nurses. The research question: what are the safety aspects in the work of surgical nurses? According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, approximately 4,100,000 patients in the European Union acquire healthcare-related infections each year. The number of deaths resulting from the direct consequences of these infections is at least 37,000. (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, b.g) The research uses a quantitative research method. To achieve the aims and objectives of the research, the design of the research is a non-experimental cross-sectional comparative study, which provides an opportunity to obtain a comparative set of research problems and structure. The research work consists of an introduction, a theoretical part, and a practical part. The theoretical part describes the mechanism of transmission of infection and the safety aspects of infection control. The practical part consists of diagrams, interpretation of results, conclusions, and proposals. Considering the epidemiological situation in the country and the weak responsiveness of participants, out of the estimated 100 respondents, 84 practising surgical nurses of different ages participated in the survey. When compiling and analysing literary sources, a research tool was created – a questionnaire that allows to find out the safety aspects in the work of surgical nurses. The research was conducted at the X Regional Hospital and posted on the internet site and sent to the survey participants. In general, survey data indicate that surgical nurses have knowledge of the safety aspects of infection control when performing patient care. Surgical nurses to avoid exposing themselves to the risk of infection use personal protective equipment, gloves 100% (n = 84), nose and mouth mask 74% (n = 74), apron 49% (n = 49), overalls 40% (n = 40), hat 30% (n = 30), face guard 22% (n = 22), glasses 16% (n = 16). In work, there are 30 pages, 10 tables, 2 attachments, and 36 sources of literature used. Keywords: infection, control, patient safety, surgery, nurse.
