Abstract: Ievads: Kritiskās domāšanas prasmes ietver spēju saprast un izskaidrot, pamatoti novērtēt un izdarīt secinājumus.
Introduction: Critical thinking skills include the ability to understand and explain, reasonably evaluate, and make conclusions. These are the core skills employers look for in graduates when interviewing candidates for the job. Therefore critical thinking is one of the most important skills to be taught in the educational institution. Some schools and colleges offer separate courses where single CT skills are taught, while others incorporate CT skills' training in the context of other courses. Independently of teaching method, critical thinking skills are assessed using both published methods and researcher-developed instruments. CT skills assessment is, moreover, an important part of the evaluation of the curriculum, particularly by pointing out the strengths and weaknesses due to detailed scoring of every part of the assessment process. Recently published researches and literature reviews conclude that the level of critical thinking skills in graduates is declining and, in general, is lower than the desired level. Aim: The main aim of this literature review was to compare and analyze results from already existing researches on critical thinking assessment in students of medical and business faculties. The CT score predictors and assessment tools were also investigated. Methods: Several databases were used to collect researches on a relevant theme, such as the Mendeley, PubMed, and the Taylor & Francis Group's peer-reviewed journals and articles. Results: This literature review showed that medical students demonstrate better critical thinking skills in the general context. On the other hand, business students have higher CT scores when assessed with tests that include business-specific questions. There was also found a correlation between the CT score and the Grade Point Average, the Medical College Admission Test's results, the Scholastic Aptitude Test. The difference in gender was also observed with the higher score for the female students. It was also noted by several authors that the critical thinking skills assessment tools should be improved for a more reliable evaluation process. Conclusion: The hypothesis of this literature review was proven correct, medical students show higher critical thinking scores than business students.
