Darbs sastāv no trim nodaļām. | lv-LV |
dc.description.abstract | The title of the bachelor’s thesis is “China’s Engagement in International Climate Policy since 2015”. The thesis tests the hypothesis: “China’s engagement in international climate policy is determined by the regime’s domestic political vulnerability to the impacts of climate change” by analyzing the external and internal political factors that determined China’s engagement in international climate policy since 2015. The research is based on the theory of neoclassical realism which views the state as the element which is found in the crossroads of the international system and domestic arena. The main contribution of neoclassical realism is that it provides a framework to include domestic political factors in the analysis while keeping the main elements of the school of realism. It includes a political system and perceptions of leaders of the state with the goal of gaining a broader understanding of the factors that determine national action in the international system. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter provides an overview of neoclassical realism. The second chapter examines the development of international climate policy and China’s engagement and position in it. The third chapter analyzes China’s engagement in global climate policy since 2015. It examines what domestic and international factors have determined China’s engagement in global climate policy. In recent years, China has been facing the effects of its economic growth and climate change which resulted in the deteriorating quality of the environment. Air and water pollution, water scarcity and other issues with the quality of the environment cause social unrests and dissatisfaction with the actions of the ruling party. China’s engagement in international climate policy is determined by the regime’s domestic political vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. Also, it is determined by the fact that China is an authoritarian state which means that it focuses on the prospects of the long-term development. This allows it to include the climate policy into the scope of the political action. | en-UK |
