Latvijas ergoterapeitu profesionālā identitāte ergoterapeitu un citu multiprofesionālās rehabilitācijas komandas speciālistu redzējumā

Abstract

Pētījuma nosaukums: “Latvijas ergoterapeitu profesionālā identitāte ergoterapeitu un citu multiprofesionālās rehabilitācijas komandas speciālistu redzējumā”. Aktualitāte: ergoterapijas literatūrā profesionālā identitāte jau krietnu laiku ir bijusi aktuāla diskusijas tēma, norādot uz atkārtoti identificētu profesionālās identitātes neskaidrību ergoterapeitu vidū (Turner and Knight, 2015). Šī neskaidrība var izraisīt problēmas gan individuālajā, gan visas nozares līmenī, sākot ar profesijas neatpazīstamību un terapeita neapmierinātību ar profesijas izvēli un turpinot ar profesijas “izdzīvošanas” apdraudējumu, finansējuma trūkumu, terapeitu izdegšanu un zemākas kvalitātes terapiju pacientiem/klientiem (Walder et al., 2022). Lai uzzinātu, kā šis fenomens atspoguļojas Latvijas kontekstā, ir nepieciešams izpētīt Latvijā praktizējošu ergoterapeitu profesionālo identitāti, jo līdz šim nav veikts neviens pētījums, kas to raksturotu. Pētījuma mērķis: noskaidrot, kāds ir Latvijas ergoterapeitu un citu multiprofesionālās rehabilitācijas komandas speciālistu redzējums par ergoterapeitu profesionālo identitāti. Pētījuma metodes: mērķa sasniegšanai tika izvēlēts kvalitatīvs pētījuma dizains – pamatotā teorija. Dati tika iegūti, realizējot divas fokusgrupu diskusijas: 1) ar 5 Latvijā praktizējošiem ergoterapeitiem; 2) ar 6 Latvijā praktizējošiem citu multiprofesionālās rehabilitācijas komandas profesiju speciālistiem. Demogrāfiskie dati tika iegūti, izmantojot elektronisku aptaujas anketu. Fokusgrupu diskusiju laikā tika veikti audioieraksti, kas pēc tam tika transkribēti un kodēti, izmantojot induktīvo un aksiālo kodēšanu. Pētījuma rezultāti: datu analīzes rezultātā tika identificētas 5 tēmas, kas veido Latvijas ergoterapeitu profesionālo identitāti – ergoterapeita profesionalitāte, profesijas kultūras elementi, iekšējā profesionālā identitāte, ārējā profesionālā identitāte un papildus ietekmējošie faktori. Secinājumi: joprojām ir novērojams izpratnes trūkums sabiedrībā un veselības aprūpes speciālistu vidū par ergoterapeita lomu. Tas, iespējams, ir saistīts ar profesijas plašumu un ergoterapeitu nespēju sniegt vienotu, saprotamu skaidrojumu par profesiju, kas apraksta visas ergoterapeitu darbības jomas kopumā. Daļa Latvijas ergoterapeitu izjūt spēcīgu profesionālo identitāti, ko ir veicinājusi piederības sajūta profesionālajai kopienai, atbalstoša sociālā un darba vide, pieredze un studijas.

Title of the study: “Professional identity of Latvian occupational therapists in the vision of occupational therapists and other specialists of the multiprofessional rehabilitation team”. Topicality: professional identity has been a relevant topic of discussion in the occupational therapy literature for quite some time, indicating a repeatedly identified ambiguity of professional identity among occupational therapists (Turner and Knight, 2015). This ambiguity can lead to problems at both the individual and industry level, ranging from lack of recognition of the profession and therapist dissatisfaction with their career choice to threats to the 'survival' of the profession, lack of funding, therapist burnout and lower quality therapy for patients/clients (Walder et al., 2022). In order to find out how this phenomenon is reflected in the context of Latvia, it is necessary to study the professional identity of occupational therapists practicing in Latvia, because so far, no research has been conducted that would characterize it. The aim of the study: identify how Latvian occupational therapists and other specialists of the multiprofessional rehabilitation team see the professional identity of occupational therapists. Reaserch methods: to achieve the aim of the study a qualitative research design, specifically grounded theory, was chosen. Data was obtained by conducting two focus group discussions: 1) with 5 occupational therapists practicing in Latvia; 2) with 6 specialists of other professions of the multiprofessional rehabilitation team practicing in Latvia. Demographic data was obtained using an electronic survey. Audio recordings were made during the focus group discussions, which were then transcribed and coded using inductive and axial coding. Results: as a result of the data analysis, 5 topics were identified that make up the professional identity of occupational therapists in Latvia – professionalism of the occupational therapist, cultural elements of the profession, internal professional identity, external professional identity, and additional influencing factors. Conclusions: there is still a lack of understanding in society and among healthcare professionals about the role of occupational therapists, likely due to the profession's breadth and the inability of occupational therapists to provide a single, comprehensible explanation of the profession that describes all areas of practice. Some occupational therapists in Latvia feel they have a strong professional identity, which has been fostered by a sense of belonging to the professional community, a supportive social and work environment, experience, and studies.
