Latvijas sabiedrības sociālie priekšstati par vīriešiem māsu profesijā

Abstract

Māsu nepietiekamība turpina augt visā pasaulē. Viena no iespējām, kā var risināt šo problēmu ir vīriešu aicināšana studijām un darbam māsu nozarē. Vīriešiem māsu profesijā ir izšķiroša nozīme, lai uzlabotu veselības aprūpi un paaugstinātu veselības aprūpes efektivitāti, ka arī nodrošinātu drošāku un augstāku aprūpes līmeni pacientiem. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir izpētīt Latvijas sabiedrības sociālos priekšstatus par vīriešiem māsu profesijā un ja tie atšķiras starp Latvijas sabiedrības sociāldemogrāfiskām grupām. Metodes: šis pētījums bija neeksperimentāls aprakstošs šķērsgriezuma pētījums, kas tika veikts no 2023. gada decembra līdz 2024.gada aprīlim. Pētījumā piedalījās 419 respondenti, kuri tika izvēlēti nejauši. Tika izmantota autora aptauja, kurā tika iekļauti jautājumi par sociāli demogrāfiskām īpašībām un priekšstatiem par māsu profesiju, ka arī pamatzināšanām par masu profesiju. Viena no izvēlētām metodēm bija brīvo asociāciju metode, kur respondentiem tika lūgts uzrakstīt asociācijas ar stimula vārdiem “Māsa vīrietis” un turpināt teikumu “Māsa vīrietis ir”. Dati tika apstrādāti ar SPSS un Excel programmas palīdzību. Tika izmantots Kruskala-Vallija tests un Manna-Vitnija tests kvantitatīviem datiem, ka arī aprakstoša statistika. Kvalitatīvie dati tika apstrādāti manuāli ar vārdu grupēšanas metodi. Rezultāti: Latvijas sabiedrība asociē māsas vīriešus ar tādām īpašībām un vārdiem kā fiziskais spēks; profesionalitāte un profesionālas īpašības, empātija un rūpes, ka arī tika uzsvērts nekorekts nosaukums priekš vīriešu kārtas māsu profesijas pārstāvja. Latvijas sabiedrība turpina dēvēt māsas, kas ir vīrieši, par medbrāļiem vai uztver viņus par ārstiem, sanitāriem un ārstu palīgiem. Ka arī, Latvijas iedzīvotāji uzsver māsu vīriešu retumu un to, ka sastapšanās ar māsu, kas ir vīrietis, var būt jaunā pieredze. Kopumā sociālie priekšstati par vīriešiem māsu profesijā ir pozitīvi. Tie būtiski neatšķiras starp Latvijas sabiedrības pārstāvju sociāldemogrāfiskām grupām, taču cilvēki, kuru izglītība ir saistīta ar veselības aprūpi, attiecās pret māsām vīriešiem pozitīvāk nekā citas grupas. Secinājumi: pētījums liecina, ka Latvijas sabiedrības pārstāvji asociē vīriešus māsu profesijā ar fizisko spēku, uzsver viņu profesionalitāti un zināšanas. Ka arī, Latvijas iedzīvotāji uzsver māsu vīriešu retumu, turpina dēvēt vīriešu kārtas profesijas pārstāvjus par medbrāļiem, kas ir novecoša terminoloģija, un piekrīt apgalvojumam, ka profesijas nosaukums “māsa” negatīvi ietekmē vīriešu izvēli mācīties un strādāt par māsām.

Nurse shortages are continuing to grow worldwide. One of the options to solve this issue is to invite men to study and work in the nursing field. Men in the nursing profession play crucial role in improving health care and increasing its efficiency, as well as providing and ensuring a safer and higher level of care for patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate social representations of Latvian society about men in nursing and to investigate if social representations differ between sociodemographic groups. Methods: this study was non-experimental cross-sectional study which was conducted from December 2023 to March 2024. Four hundred nineteen (n=419) randomly selected respondents participated in the research. The author’s survey was used, which included questions about social demographic characteristics and respresentations of nursing, as well as basic knowledge about nurses and nurses’ job. One of the chosen methods included in the survey was free association method, where all respondents were asked to write associations with words “Male nurse” and to continue the sentence “Male nurse is”. Data was processed with SPSS and Excel program help. Quantitative data was processed by using Kruskal Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test, as well as describing statistics methods were used. Qualitative data was processed in a manual manner through word grouping method. Results: Latvian society associates male nurses with such qualities as physical strength; professionalism and professional qualities, empathy and care. Respondents also emphasized the incorrect name for profession representative who is a male. Latvian residents continue to use old terminology or perceive them as doctors, paramedics and nurse assistants. Respondents also emphasized the rarity of male nurses in Latvia and that interaction with them could be a completely new experience. In general, social representations of men in nursing are positive. Social representations of male nurses do not differ significantly between sociodemographic groups. Respondents, whose education is related to health care perceived male nurses more positively than other groups. Conclusions: the research shows that Latvian society associate male nurses with physical strength, professionalism and knowledge. However, Latvian residents put a stress on male nurse rarity, continue to call nurses as “medical brothers”, which is old terminology, and agree with the statement, that existing profession name negatively influence males’ choice to study and work as nurses.
