Work Hazards for Independent Contractors within the Food Delivery Sector

Abstract

Literatūras apskats par koncertu ekonomikas pieaugumu, kas sakrita ar COVID-19 pandēmiju. Galvenā uzmanība tiek pievērsta apdraudējumiem, ar kuriem pandēmijas laikā ir saskārušies neatkarīgi darbuzņēmēji. Promocijas darbā uzmanība pievērsta arī ieteikumiem un risinājumiem, kas var tikt veikti, lai uzlabotu darbinieku apstākļus. Promocijas darba secinājumos tiek ignorētas digitālās platformas, ar kurām neatkarīgie darbuzņēmēji strādā, lai nodrošinātu drošību pandēmijas laikā. Turklāt darbinieku marķēšana par neatkarīgiem darbuzņēmējiem sniedz korporācijām iespēju atbrīvot sevi no saistībām un priekšrocībām, no kurām tās nevar izvairīties, ja tās uzskatītu par darbiniekiem.

A literature review about the rise of the gig economy which coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary focus is the hazards that independent contractors have faced during the pandemic. The thesis focuses as well on recommendations and solutions which can be done to improve the conditions of the workers. The findings of the thesis find neglect of the digital platforms of which the independent contractors operate with in terms of providing safety during the pandemic. Additionally, the labeling of the workers as independent contractors gives the corporations the possibility to remove themselves from obligations and benefits that they can’t escape if they were considered employees.
