Abstract
Bachelor’s Paper with the topic “Comparison of Interpersonal Communication Experience of Patients in Outpatient Care and Inpatient Care” is based on studies where topicality of interpersonal communication is proven. Communication plays an important role in a nurse's professional activity. In general, establishing effective communication with patients is an essential aspect of care (Fakhr-Movahedi, Rahnavard, & Salsali, 2016). All of a nurse's work — assessment, planning, intervention, teaching, encouragement, counseling, and care — is based on communication. Thus, communication in healthcare is defined as an interactive, dynamic process with an emphasis on promoting the client's well-being physically and emotionally (McCabe, Timmins 2006). The aim of the study is to compare the experience of patients with interpersonal communication in outpatient and inpatient care. The hypothesis of the study is “Experience of patients about receiving information regarding the treatment and care process from nurses in outpatient care and inpatient care is different”. The tool of the study is a questionnaire developed by the author. This way, the author can find out the opinion of the specific target group on the topic to be studied, carrying out a questionnaire of adult patients who have had experience in communication with a health-care nurse in inpatient or outpatient stage during the last 12 months. 246 respondents were surveyed; however, 213 questionnaires were regarded as valid. In assessing the communication experience with a nurse in the aspect of process both in outpatient and inpatient stage, the respondents assess their experience as good. In assessing the communication experience with a nurse regarding the provision of information on treatment and in care process in outpatient and inpatient stage, the respondents assess their experience as a good one. In assessing the communication experience with a nurse on education regarding the elf-care both in outpatient and inpatient care stage, the respondents assess their experience as unsatisfactory. When comparing whether the patients have different interpersonal communication experience in outpatient and outpatient stage, it can be seen that experience differs only in six statements out of twenty-seven. The hypothesis of the study, “Patients' experience in receiving information about treatment and care process from nurses in outpatient and inpatient care is different,” is partially confirmed
