Kopsavilkums
This thesis focuses on examining the relationship between the quality of removable denture care and oral health among seniors. Denture plaque is a biofilm that forms on denture surfaces and can contribute to both local and systemic diseases, making its assessment essential for maintaining oral health. In the context of an ageing population, oral health care becomes increasingly important, as older adults often face hygiene-related challenges such as reduced self-care abilities, limited manual dexterity, and insufficient knowledge about proper oral care. Poor oral hygiene and inadequate denture maintenance can lead to complications such as denture stomatitis, mucosal ulcers, infections, and an increased risk of systemic health problems. The aim of this study is to determine seniors’ knowledge regarding the relationship between oral health and the quality of removable denture care. The theoretical part analyses scientific literature on denture care methods and their impact on health. The empirical part includes a survey in which 50 seniors in Latvia were questioned. The study is based on the hypothesis that seniors’ knowledge in this area is insufficient. The results of the research highlight the need for educational initiatives to improve seniors’ oral health, reduce risks associated with denture biofilm, and promote a better quality of life.
