Abstract
Title of the thesis: Systematic review: The Importance of Vocal Hygiene in Voice Therapy – Treatment and Prevention of Dysphonia Objective: Systematically analyze and compile available scientific literature on the effectiveness of vocal hygiene in the treatment and prevention of dysphonia. Research question: Does vocal hygiene education has effect in voice therapy, in the treatment of dysphonia? To what extent does voice hygiene help in the treatment process? Research methods: Three databases were selected for data collection: ScienceDirect, PubMed, EBSCO host. Studies published within the last 15 years were selected based on key words. Studies had free full text, available to read in Latvian, Russian or English language. Their quality was assessed according to the PEDro scale: two articles were rated with 5 points and one article with 7 points. Results: Three studies were analyzed in which participants with dysphonia participated in learning vocal hygiene. Acoustic, aerodynamic parameters and voice self-assessment before and after the intervention were compared. Conclusions: It was concluded that voice hygiene training is effective in reducing the symptoms of voice quality and dysphonia and is recommended for professional voice users to improve and maintain voice. Key words: Vocal hygiene, Vocal hygiene education, Dysphonia, effectiveness, knowledge
