Kopsavilkums
Title of the Qualification Paper: “The Relationship Between Dietary Habits and Oral Health” The paper consists of an introduction, three chapters, a discussion section, and conclusions. Keywords: early childhood caries, oral health, periodontitis, dietary habits, dental erosion, dental caries. This qualification paper examines and analyzes a current and relevant topic concerning people’s dietary habits and their impact not only on public health in general but specifically on oral health. It also explores the dietary habits and knowledge of dental patients regarding the relationship between nutrition and oral health. Aim of the qualification paper: To study and analyze the relationship between dietary habits and oral health by reviewing scientific literature and assessing dental patients’ dietary habits and knowledge. A survey method was used in this study. The research included 53 participants, and descriptive analysis was applied to evaluate the data. The first chapter discusses how dietary habits influence public health in general. The second chapter focuses on the impact of nutrition specifically on oral health, describing how eating habits affect oral diseases. The third chapter presents the research methodology, analysis, and interpretation of the results. The research part explores and verifies the hypothesis formulated in the paper. The author’s findings indicate that dietary habits play a crucial role not only in overall health but also in maintaining healthy teeth and oral tissues. Indeed, 100% of respondents believe that dietary habits affect oral health, and 96.2% recognize that sugar and sweetened beverages are the main contributors to caries development. This influence manifests through various biochemical, microbiological, and physiological mechanisms that determine the oral environment and its ability to resist pathological damage. Overall, dental patients demonstrate good knowledge about the impact of diet on oral health; however, most do not apply this knowledge in daily practice. This is supported by the finding that 52.8% of respondents still consume sugar during breakfast, indicating a high frequency of sugar intake despite being aware of its harmful effects. Based on the results obtained, the hypothesis has been partially confirmed. The study confirms a significant relationship between dietary habits and oral health and a high level of education of respondents, however, the impact of this knowledge on actual behavior cannot be unequivocally proven.
