Abstract: Darba autore, Kristīne Matisone, RSU Sabiedrības veselības un sociālās labklājības fakultātes Liepājas filiāles pilna laika klātienes 1.līmeņa studijas programmas “Ārstnieciskā masāža” 2. kursa studente.
The author, Kristine Matisone, the full time second year student of RSU Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare studying the first level study programme - “Medical massa-ge”. The theme of the Qualification Paper: “The opinion of floorball players and medical pro-fessionals about the inclusion of foot massage in the process knee pain treatment. Exciting sports, including floorball, provide many positive moments in an athlete’s life, but poorly distributed and markedly increased physical activity causes variety of injuries, in-cluding knee pain, which can have a significant impact on quality of life. The biomechanics of an atlete’s body are made up of complex and highly coordinated systematic interactions between ligaments, tendons, muscles and bones, and movements are controlled by nervous system. Any injury or trauma disturbs the interaction process and causes movement disorders of the affected parts of the body, including the knee joints. It is vital to prevent the wrong load distribution in the athlete’s body to reduce the risk of trauma, but if the injury has occured, it is necessary to choose the right rehabilitation process to speed up the recovery pro-cess. Medical massage can be useful to reduce the risk of trauma, it also promotes the flexi-bility of ligaments and muscles, accelerates the recovery of body and muscles after sport acti-vities, improves the process of injury rehabilitation, reduces pain, improves joint mobility, the amplitude of movement and reduces inflammatory processes. The aim of the Research: to get to know the opinions of floorball players and medical professionals about the inclusion of massage in the therapy process in case of knee joint pain. The objective of the Research: what is the opinion of floorball players and medical professionals about the inclusion of foot massage in the treatment of knee pain. Research Methods: quantitative, cross-sectional, non-experimental and comparison methods (questionnaire) The main conclusions: the Research study shows that 76% of medical professionals have a positive opinion about the inclusion of massage in the treatment of knee pain and it is considered as a positive opinion. 90% of medical professionals include massage in the process of knee pain treatment but 75% believe that regular foot massage would reduce the risk of knee injuries. 69% of floorball players have a positive opinion about the inclusion of massage in the process of knee joint pain treatment, which according to the the set criteria, is compa-rable to the negative opinion of the respondents in a particular study. 83,4% of floorball players admit that they have insufficient knowledge about the usefulness of massage although they would gladly agree to have a massage if recommended by a medicial professional. In Latvia only 11,7% of floorball clubs/societies have access to massage services. The obtained conclusions can be used in order to promote the athletes’ knowledge of the importance of massage in the trea
