Current Options for Conservative and Surgical Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Abstract

Pētījuma mērķis ir pārskatīt dažāda veida konservatīvas un ķirurģiskas pieejas, lai ārstētu pacientus, kuri cieš no karpālā kanāla sindroma. Šajā literatūras apskatā tiek salīdzinātas vairākas ārstēšanas iespējas. Pirmajās simptomu epizodēs vispirms jāapsver konservatīvā ārstēšana, jo bojājumi slimības sākumā vēl nav tik smagi. Operatīvā terapija uzrāda labākus rezultātus, īpaši karpālā kanāla atbrīvošanas metode ar karpālā šķērseniskās saites subneirālu rekonstrukciju. Tomēr ir nepieciešami papildus pētījumi, it īpaši pacientiem ar blakusslimībām, kuras lielākoties tiek izslēgtas no pētījumiem.

The aim of this literature review study is to review different kind of conservative and surgical approaches for treating patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. During this literature review several treatment options are compared. There has been an improvement in ways of treating Carpal tunnel syndrome. In the first episodes of symptoms conservative treatment should be considered first, due to the fact that the damage occurred is not so severe in the beginning of Carpal tunnel syndrome. As a definite treatment surgery shows the best results, especially the method of carpal tunnel release with subneural reconstruction of the transverse carpal ligament showed better results than open or endoscopic surgery. Yet more studies have to be performed especially in patients with comorbidities which are mostly excluded from studies since they might not produce the best result.
