The Current Epidemiological Situation of Antibiotic Resistance Patterns in Neisseria Gonorrhoeae Infections - A Literature Review

Abstract

Izpētīt pašreizējo epidemioloģisko situāciju Eiropā attiecībā uz N. gonorrhoeae rezistenci pret antibiotikām un ārstēšanas taktiku nākotnē. Sistēmātiska literatūras pārskata mērķis ir atbildēt uz jautājumu, vai situācija, ko CDC klasificē kā "steidzamu", ir spēkā un kādi pretpasākumi pašlaik tiek veikti. Šis darbs ir vērsts uz četriem galvenajiem uzdevumiem. 1.) Raksturot N. gonorrhoeae infekciju un tās lomu mūsdienu sabiedrībā. 2.) Sagatavot N. gonorrhoeae infekcija pašreizējās epidemioloģiskās situācijas kopsavilkumu un raksturot rezistences modeli pēdējo desmit gadu laikā. 3.) Raksturot N. gonorrhoeae genotipizācijas nozīmi. 4.) Aprakstīt pašreizējos CDC un PVO ieteiktos antibiotiku lietošanas režīmus, to ierobežojumus un pretpasākumus, kas veikti, lai palēninātu rezistences veidošanos.

The aim of this thesis is to provide a literature review on the current epidemiological situation of antibiotic resistance in N. gonorrhoeae across Europe and evaluate future treatment tactics. The comprehensive review intends to answer the question on whether the situation classified by the CDC as "urgent" applies and what countermeasures are currently underway. This review focuses on four main tasks: 1.) Characteristics of N. gonorrhoeae infections and its role in today´s society. 2.) A summary of the current epidemiological situation of N. gonorrhoeae infections and their resistance patterns over the last decade. 3.) Role of genotyping in N. gonorrhoeae. 4.) Current antibiotic regimens recommended by the CDC and WHO, their limitations and countermeasures undertaken to slow down the emerging resistance.
