This thesis is a literature review on the topic of degenerative temporomandibular disorders, their aetiology, pathogenesis, differential diagnosis and treatment. A total of six local degenerative disorders are reviewed and the systemic degenerative disorders and their effect on the temporomandibular joint are also reviewed. The disorders which locally affect the temporomandibular joint and that are reviewed are osteoarthritis, condylysis/idiopathic condylar resorption, osteonecrosis, osteochondritis dissecans, neoplasms and synovial chondromatosis. |
