The study objective was to explore parent knowledge about mouth breathing and myofunctional disorders. Mouth breathing is mainly caused by a completely or partially obstructed nose, incompetent lip seal or habit. Mouth breathing can result in many problems like snoring, asthma, dermatitis, quality of life deterioration, maxillofacial changes, orthodontic problems, and others. Mouth breathing is related to myofunctional disorders and can cause long term consequences on children’s physical and mental health. To avoid these long-term consequences, it is important to diagnose mouth breathing and myofunctional problems as early as possible. The author of this work tried to find out if parents have a sufficient level of knowledge about mouth breathing and myofunctional disorders. Conclusions: 60 parents took part in this survey. The results showed that parents have low knowledge about mouth breathing and myofunctional disorders. Parents play a vital role in a child’s health and wellbeing. Parents need to have a sufficient level of knowledge about mouth breathing and myofunctional disorders, to identify early signs of these problems and turn for help from specialists. |
