Abstract: The International Society for the History of Medicine (ISHM) is a non-profit international society with the aim to assist and support the historical study of all questions relating to the medical and allied sciences. The Society stimulates and oversees the organisation of periodic international congresses in the history of medicine. (ISHM Statutes, 2007) For the first time in the one hundred year history of the ISHM, the congress took place in Latvia.
