Abstract: Originality / value – the content of this article – is based on the author’s own original research. The study presents empirically tested arguments, interpretation of the term ‘household’ in the Latvian regulatory enactments. At a time when a state of emergency has been declared in the country, in such circumstances there is neither precise normative terminology, nor criteria for defining household. Those applying legislation have no uniform understanding as to whether a relationship established in a partnership can be viewed as household. This issue requires further research and discussion. The aim of the publication is to reveal some legal issues that directly affect couples living in a household.
