| lv-LV |
dc.description.abstract | Background: With the increased use and integration of social medias in everyday life for the past two decades, we now have a generation of adolescence that was born and raised with this form of communication. With it, over the years, there are more and more reports in the media about the dangers of social media use in the still developing adolescence. One such danger is the risk of developing depression. Aim: To find if the hypothesis that there is a relation between use of social media and depression in adolescence is correct and to understand some of the main mechanisms behind it. Tasks: Reviewing different publications relating to social media use and depression in the context of adolescence and assessing their relation. Introducing the current modules of social medias used by adolescence. Assembling and presenting possible mechanisms. Methodology: The use of articles, publications and others published in PubMed, Clinical Key, and other relevant databases and internet sources for compiling the relevant literature. Results and conclusions: While there are tendencies showing a relation between social media use and depression in adolescence proving the hypothesis correct, this relation was not shown to be a linear relation, having different factors and co-factors acting in a multifactorial manner at times. Additional research using longitudinal studies are recommended to better understand the mechanisms and factors taking part in the pathogenesis. | en-UK |
