Ievads
ABSTRACT Background Young doctors react differently to the new work environment. One part finds the work stimulating, and the other part finds work stressful, which leading to different adverse outcomes. Aim This quantitative study aims to find out why young doctors are under such stress, which factors affect mental well-being, the outcome of such stressful work and how to cope with the stress. Method Different studies from several countries were taken into consideration . Each of the studies has a descriptive cross-sectional survey of junior doctors - these surveys were summed up in this scientific work. Results Young doctors are prone to be stressed during the first years of residency, which has a psychological effect like burnout and depression. Coping mechanisms must be implemented to prevent stress and to reduce it on a daily basis. Conclusions The prevalence of stress, especially in young doctors, is high. Long hours at work, job satisfaction, family-work conflict and no feedback from supervising doctors emerge as primary psychological and emotional disturbance sources. Effort-reward imbalance and overcommitment are also essential elements that should be taken into account. Burnout associated with stress has a significant impact on junior doctors. Young doctors are the most vulnerable age group when psychiatric disorders start, especially depression and anxiety disorders. All the factors can affect the workload and the quality of treating patients. Reducing work hours, increasing the salary, implementing opportunities for career development, support, and encouragement by senior doctor personnel could potentially decrease work-related stress among young doctors. |
