Modern Lifestyle - The Culprit of Food Allergy?

Abstract

IEVADS: Pārtikas alerģijas incidence dramatiski pieauga pēdējās desmitgadēs. Straujas izmaiņas izplatībā nevar tikt izskaidrotas vien ar ģenētiskiem faktoriem cilvēces evolūcijas šaurā laika posmā. Tādēļ ārējās vides faktoriem ir noteicošā loma šīs slimības attīstībā.

MĒRĶIS: Apkopot literatūras datus par patofizioloģiskiem mehānismiem un ietekmējamiem riska faktoriem, kuri veicina pārtikas alerģijas attīstību, tādējādi sekmēt ieteikumu izstrādi šīs slimības profilaksei un ārstēšanai.

METODOLOĢIJA: Šī pētnieciskā darba metode ir literatūras apskats kopā ar datu apkopojumu, kuri tika ievākti tiešsaistes anketēšanā par pārtikas alerģijas sastopamību Rīgas Stradiņa universitātes studentiem.

GALVENIE REZULTĀTI: Pārtikas alerģijas attīstība ir multifaktoriāla un dažādi modificējamie riska faktori ir iesaistīti tās attīstībā. Daži faktori ietekmē kuņģa – zarnu trakta mikrofloru, kurai ir galvenā loma imūnās sistēmas attīstībā un turpmāk var veicināt alerģijas attīstību. Uztura faktoriem un blakusslimībām arī ir zināma ietekme pārtikas alerģijas patoģenēzē. Dažus no šiem faktoriem var modificēt, lai samazinātu pārtikas alerģijas sastopamību.

SECINĀJUMI: Vairākiem modernā dzīves stila faktoriem ir negatīva ietekme uz pārtikas alerģijas attīstību un tādējādi tos var attiecināt kā galveno cēloni pārtikas alerģijas izplatības pieaugumam.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of food allergy has risen dramatically over the last decades. Genetic factors alone do not suffice to explain the rapid changes in prevalence, over such a short period of human evolution. Instead, environmental factors appear to play a key role.

AIM: To compile an analytical overview of the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms and possibly modifiable risk factors that contribute to the development of food allergy and its rise, thereby gaining directives for improved prevention and management strategies.

METHODOLOGY: The design of this research paper is a literature review in combination with the presentation of results obtained by an online survey about food allergy amongst RSU students.

KEY RESULTS: The development of food allergy is multifactorial and several modifiable risk factors are involved in its development. Various factors influence the microbiome which plays a crucial role in the development of the immune system and can determine subsequent allergy development. Different nutritional factors and comorbidities also play a role in the pathogenesis. Several of these factors can be modified in order to reduce the occurrence of food allergies.

CONCLUSION: Several factors of modern lifestyle have a negative impact on food allergy development and may therefore be regarded as a major culprit of the rising prevalence of food allergies.
