The paper presents general information about biologically active additives (BAA): their history, definitions and classification, differences in BAA from drugs. And the information is provided on both the effects of interactions of BAA and the results of interactions between BAA and drugs, describing positive and negative effects on a health condition, as well as the role of BAA in clinical practice is also described. The research analyzes results of the survey conducted to study the attitude of our society to BAA, understanding of its nature, usage patterns, as well as study of the usage of BAA as the main threating method or in complex with drugs. Conclusions: Dietary supplements are more commonly used by younger than older people and the use is higher for women in each age group than for men; both women and men have a positive attitude towards BAA; most respondents consider BAA to be a food supplement; general health condition improvement, prevention of different kind of diseases and support of the active way of live are the most motivating or could motivate respondents to use BAA; the majority of respondents are aware of the differences between BAA and drugs, and most respondents believe that drugs cannot be completely replaced by BAA which should be used only by recommendation of doctors. |
