dc.description.abstractŠī pētījuma mērķis bija noteikt izdegšanas līmeni veselības aprūpes speciālistu vidū, kuri strādā intensīvās terapijas nodaļās Latvijā, un tā saistību ar sociodemogrāfisko profilu. Tika izvirzītas divas hipotēzes, no kurām pirmā bija: "izdegšanas līmenis intensīvās terapijas nodaļā strādājošo veselības aprūpes speciālistu vidū Latvijā ir augstāks nekā citās Eiropas valstīs" un otrā hipotēze: Otrā hipotēze: "pastāv saistība starp izdegšanas līmeni un sociodemogrāfisko profilu". Pētījumā tika aicināti piedalīties visi ārsti un medicīnas māsas, kas strādā intensīvās terapijas nodaļā trijās lielākajās Rīgas slimnīcās (Paula Stradiņa Klīniskā universitātes slimnīca, Rīgas Austrumu klīniskā universitātes slimnīca un Bērnu klīniskā universitātes slimnīca). Visi dati tika vākti no 2020. gada 1. jūnija līdz 1. septembrim, izmantojot sociodemogrāfisko anketu un 16 punktu aptaujas anketu - Oldenburgas izdegšanas inventāru (The Oldenburg Burnout Inventory), kurā atbildes tika sniegtas 4 punktu Likerta skalas veidā.
The goal of this study was to determine the level of burnout among the healthcare professionals working in Intensive Care Units in Latvia and its association with the sociodemographic profile. Two hypotheses were drafted, being the first one: “the level of burnout among healthcare professionals working in an ICU is higher in Latvia than in other European countries” and the second one: “there are associations between the level of burnout and the sociodemographic profile”. All physicians and nurses working in an ICU at the three largest hospitals in Riga (Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital; Riga East Clinical University Hospital and Children's Clinical University Hospital) were invited to participate. All data were collected between the 1st of June and the 1st of September of 2020, through a sociodemographic questionnaire and a 16-item survey - The Oldenburg Burnout Inventory - with responses being in the form of a 4-point Likert scale. In the present study, a 62% (n=190) response rate was obtained. Overall, the mean score for burnout was 2.43 (SD=0.34), with the mean score for Disengagement being 2.31 (SD=0.38) and 2.56 (SD=0.40) for Exhaustion. Participants working at Intensive Care Unit from the Children's Clinical University Hospital showed the lowest mean score of burnout (2.28) and participants working at the “Latvian Oncology Centre” in the Riga East Clinical University Hospital showed the highest (2.61). Regarding the first hypothesis, this study helped us to determine that the level of disengagement felt by the participants in Latvia is closely similar to the level in other European countries, such as in Ireland and in the United Kingdom. The same pattern follows for the exhaustion subscale, where Latvia’s results are closely similar to the results in Ireland. This study also revealed that there are associations between the level of burnout felt by the participants with the type (p=0.011) and the place of work (p=0.017), while the exhaustion subscale correlated only to the type of work (p=0.006). The main findings of this study agree with results of similar studies in other countries and confirm that healthcare professionals in Latvia also experience significant levels of burnout in their job. The present study also helped us to verify that only the type and place of work have shown a relation with the level of burnout, in line with similar studies showing that the majority of the sociodemographic characteristics do not play such a big role as the environmental characteristics of the place of work, including the relationships among the staff, the physical characteristics of the unit or organizational factors. With this study we are able to identify where to develop initiatives and procedures aiming at reducing the incidence of burnout, with the goal of increasing the quality of treatment received by the patients and contributing to a better environment for all involved, professionals, patients and family members.en-UK
