The Hazards of Surgical Smoke in the Operation Room

Abstract

KOPSAVILKUMS

Pētījums ir balstīts uz ķirurģisko dūmu izpēti, kurš rodas operāciju laikā, to sastāvu, veidošanas mehānismu, izplatību operāciju zālēs, kas savukārt var ietekmēt medicīniska personāla veselību, kā arī pacientu operāciju laikā, preventīviem pasākumiem, lai mazināto dūmu izplatību un to negatīvo ietekmi uz nodarbināto veselību. Pētījuma mērķis ir zinātnisko pierādījuma savākšana hipotēzes apstiprināšanai par ķirurģisko dūmu negatīvo ietekmi uz nodarbināto veselību, un sekojošu preventīvo pasākumu pieņemšana, lai nodrošinātu optimālo un drošu darba vidi operāciju zāles darbiniekiem. Darba metodes – pētījums ir zinātniskais apraksts. Ķirurģisko dūmu sastāva izpēte nodrošina informāciju par iespējamiem veselības riskiem, ka arī preventīviem pasākumiem. Izpētot nesen publicētos materiālus, kas saistīti ar pētījumiem par šo tēmu, tiks izmantota detalizēta literatūras meklēšana vietnē PubMed, lai atrastu publikācijas. Rezultāti. Vairāki pētījumi ir pierādījuši, ka ķirurģiskiem dūmiem piemīt toksiskais sastāvs. Operāciju zāles darbinieki tiek pakļauti gan īslaicīgai, gan arī ilglaicīgai ķirurģisko dūmu iedarbībai. Tā ietekmei, savukārt, piemīt no vieglas līdz smagas pakāpēs riska iedarbība uz nodarbināto organismu. Mūsdienas ventilācijas sistēmas un sejas maskas nepietiekoši aizsargā no ķirurģisko dūmu nelabvēlīgas ietekmes. Lai nodrošinātu labāko darba vidi ir nepieciešami labāki preventīvie pasākumi, kas iekļautu kompleksus ar vispārējiem principiem (piemēram vispārēja ventilācija), kā arī individuāliem aizsardzības principiem (piemēram, masku vai respiratoru pielietojums) Secinājumi. Lai mazinātu nelabvēlīgo ķirurģisko dūmu ietekmi uz nodarbināto veselību ir svarīga ventilācijas sistēmu uzlabošana, kā arī operāciju zāles aprīkojuma un instrumentu uzlabošana.

ABSTRACT

This study focus on the concept of surgical smoke, its composition, how it is produced, how it is distributed in the environment of a surgical room, which risks it brings to the health of the operation room personnel and the patients being treated and the measures that should be taken to control and prevent surgical team members from being excessively exposed to surgical smoke to avoid occupational hazards and a negative health impact. The aim is to get together information which reinforces the hypothesis that exposition to surgical smoke has a negative impact on our health, and consequently, it should be taken as a priority to take action in order to guarantee a safe air quality for OR personnel. Methods: This study is a literature review. The composition of surgical smoke is important to understand which health risks it can cause and what are the capturing, filtering and individual protection ways to reduce its hazardous consequences. With that purpose, a detailed literature search about the topic was done in Pubmed. Results: Several studies show that surgical smoke has a toxic composition. Surgical team members are, either in short or long-term exposure to smoke plumes. Exposure to surgical smoke brings mild to severe health risks. The current used ventilation systems and masks are not enough to protect them from the hazards of surgical smoke. For it, a combination of general room ventilation, LEV system and individual protection methods, as using masks/respirators is needed in the operation rooms. Conclusion: Improving ventilation systems and implementing serious legislation on operation room equipment and devices is crucial to avoid exposure of surgical team members to the hazardous consequences of surgical smoke.
