The Interconnection betweeen Osteoarthritis and Occupational Activities

Abstract

Osteoartrīts ir pieaugoša problem, kas ir ļoti izplatīta daudzās pasaules valstīs. Iedzīvotāju vidū vairāk nekā puse pieaugušo ar osteoartrītu 18,7 miljoni ir darbspējīgā vecumā (18 –64 gadi) . Pēdējo divdesmit gadu laikā daudzās Eiropas valstīs ir palielinājies izdevumu apjoms osteoartrīta ārstēšanai. Viens no galvenajiem veicinošajiem faktoriem, kas ir plaši zināms, ir iedzīvotāju vecuma pieaugums, bet ne tik daudz uzmanības pievērsts dažādām profesionālām aktivitātēm, kas ir riska faktori, kuros piedalās daudzi, ja ne visi. Atkarībā no nodarbošanās nepieciešamas dažādas aktivitātes, tāpēc analizēt dažādas aktivitātes un kā tās ietekmē dažādas locītavas, kā arī kā tās var inducēt osteoartrītu, ir svarīgs aspekts, kas uzsvērts šajā literatūras apskatā. Šā pētījuma mērķis ir apkopot informāciju no dažādiem avotiem, lai iegūtu informāciju par saistību starp osteoartrītu un profesionālo darbību. Turklāt šajā literatūras apskatā ir dati no pētījumiem, kas attiecas uz saistību starp osteoartrītu un specifiskām arodaktivitātēm. Lai samazinātu šo risku, jāņem vērā visi ar osteoartrītu un arodaktivitātēm saistītie riska faktori, lai pēc iespējas labāk novērstu osteoartrītu, kas turpmāk tiks apspriests šajā darbā.

Osteoarthritis is a rising issue which is highly prevalent in many countries across the globe. In todays society, over half of adults with OA, 18.7 million, are within the working age (18–64 years) [1]. For the past two decades, there has been an increase in expenditure for treatment of osteoarthritis in numerous European countries. One of the main contributing factors to this which is widely known is increase in population age, but not as much attention has been placed to various occupational activities which are risk factors that many if not all participate in. Depending on the occupation, different activities are required, therefore analyzing various activities and how they affect different joints as well as how they can induce osteoarthritis is an important aspect that is highlighted in this literature review. The aim of this study is to compile information from various sources to obtain knowledge about the interconnection between osteoarthritis and occupational activities. Furthermore, this literature review contains data collection from studies which pertain to the the strength of association between osteoarthritis and specific occupational activities. In order to decrease the risk of this, all risk factors surrounding osteoarthritis and occupational activities need to be taken into account to prevent osteoarthritis in the best way possible, which will be further discussed in this thesis.
