Master’s thesis: “Oncohematological patient care needs and their connestion to depression, anxiety and stress”. Objective: To identify the care needs of oncohematological patients and their association with depression, anxiety and stress. Hypothesis: There is a statistically significant relationship between the care needs and rates of depression, anxiety and stress of oncohematological patients. Research questions: What are the current care needs of Latvian oncohematological patients? What are the leading symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress among Latvian oncohematological patients? The study used a demographic questionnaire and DASS 42 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales), and SCNS-SF34 (Supportive Care Needs Survey Short Form) questionnaires. The survey involved 202 oncohematological patients from the study base hospital who were hospitalized during the study. Type of sample – improbable, quota sample, surveyed once. Results and conclusions: Overall, 23% of respondents reported depressive symptoms, 30% of respondents had anxiety symptoms, and 21% had stress symptoms. The averages of supportive care are relatively low (from 21, (SD=27,3) to 39, (SD=25,3)). It was found that as the needs for supportive care increase, so do the symptoms of depression and anxiety in the overall sample of respondents. Also, as the needs of the health system and information domain increase, so do the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress in men. The most important care needs of Latvian oncohematological patients are: the need for help in case of pain; when there is a lack of energy/fatigue; when they are unable to perform activities that were previously customary to perform; the need for help to ease concerns about the closest people worries; to address uncertainty about the future; an explanation of the examinations carried out is required; requires an understanding attitude of hospital staff towards the patient's feelings and emotional needs and need help to deal with changes in sexual feelings. The leading symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress in Latvian oncohematological patients are indifference, dysphoria, anhedonia; autonomic arousal, situational anxiety; nervous excitement, agitation, irritability, difficulty relaxing.
