Abstract: | Pētījuma mērķis: Izpētīt fizioterapeitu perspektīvu par savu profesionālo lomu
2= 29,df=2, p=0,002). Objective: To explore physiotherapist's perspective on their professional role in the care of patients with mental disorders Design: Mixed type sequential study. The first part - a qualitative study, the second part - a cross-sectional study Methods: Participants: The qualitative part of the research included 6 participants, all women who speak and understand Latvian fluently. The participants of the study were selected on the principle of convenience and with the intention to have different experience in the treatment of patients with mental illness, different duration since graduation, different workplace profiles. The quantitative part of the study included 122 participants working in one of the RSU, LSPA or DU clinical bases. The study involved 109 women and 13 men, aged 23-56. Outcome measures: A semi-structured interview was used in the qualitative part of the study, a questionnaire based on the results obtained in the qualitative part was used in the quantitative part of the study. Process: In the quantitative part of the research, semi-structured interviews, and analysis of qualitative content with inductive approach and deduction elements were performed. From the obtained results, an online based questionnaire was created, which was further sent to physiotherapists working in the clinical bases of universities. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive and comparative statistical methods. Main results and conclusions: Physiotherapists note that they lack confidence in their knowledge and skills to recognize diagnosed and undiagnosed mental disorders, to understand the effects of mental disorders on physical health, and to apply physiotherapy techniques to reduce mental disorders. Physiotherapists feel confident in communicating with patients with physical illnesses, but do not feel confident in communicating with patients with mental illness (χ2 = 19.42, df = 6, p = 0.025). The need for cooperation with health care specialists was also emphasized, but physiotherapists do not feel confident in cooperation with mental health care specialists (χ2 = 29, df = 2, p = 0.002). |
