Abstract: Maģistra darbs “Grētas Tūnbergas publisko runu diskursa analīze” pēta 17 gadus jaunās zviedru skolnieces un klimata aktīvistes Grētas Tūnbergas puliskajās runās par klimata pārmaiņām paustā argumentatīvā diskursa verbālās un neverbālās komunikācijas īpatnības, ar kuru palīdzību norisinās Grētas Tūnbergas publiskajās runās izteiktā viedokļa par klimata pārmaiņu problēmu attaisnošana un plašākas sabiedrības pārliecināšana tā pareizīgumā, kā arī iesaistīšanās vides diskursu konfliktā un iespējama šī konflikta un visa vides diskursa modifikācija.
The master's thesis 'Discourse Analysis of Greta Thunberg's Public Speeches' explores features of verbal and nonverbal communication expressed in the argumentative discourse of the 17 years old Swedish schoolgirl and climate activist Greta Thunberg's public speeches. The explored features help to justify by the argumentative discourse expressed opinion and persuade society to accept its rightness, as well as let Greta Thunberg participate in the conflict of environmental discourses and make probable changes to it. Taking into account the ability of environmental communication, which includes Greta Thunberg's public speeches, to construct the understanding of the environment and action that is concerned with solving environmental problems, as well as the urgency of the climate change problem and Greta Thunberg's ability to gain support to her environmental discourse and by it expressed opinions and argumentation from millions of people in the form of global climate strike series, it is important to explore this type of communication, as well as the meanings that are generated and attributed to the environment via it. Taking into account that this thesis aims to explore the argumentative discourse of Greta Thunberg's public speeches, the theoretical part of the thesis also looks at argumentation theory, rhetorical approach to it, and public speech genre. The research is carried out within the principles of qualitative methodology. It involves the analysis of seven public speeches given by Greta Thunberg. According to the data of analysis, the communication expressed within the argumentative discourse of Greta Thunberg is aimed to justify the verbally stated assertion that action is required to change the world. The argumentative discourse is based on the creation of a dilemma, juxtapositions, the impression that the world is faulty, which is proved by the change of role between children and grown-ups and political leaders, and other verbally expressed features. Whereas the nonverbal communication expressed within the same argumentative discourse, mainly, serves as the visual demonstration and strengthening force of the verbally expressed argumentation.
