Abstract:
In my thesis, I looked into the underlying causes of perioral dermatitis. I aimed to analyze current research, focusing on human studies from 2010 onwards, to identify the most significant factors contributing to this condition. One of the primary findings of my research is the significant role of corticosteroids, both topical and systemic, in triggering perioral dermatitis. Another key aspect is the impact of certain cosmetic ingredients, which can exacerbate or even cause the condition. Interestingly, my study also highlighted the role of bacterial involvement, particularly focusing on specific types like rod-shaped bacteria and fusobacteria, in the development of perioral dermatitis. Additionally, I found that compromised skin barrier function and a predisposition to allergies are influential in the onset of this condition.
