Hip joint arthritis is the second most common osteoarthritis after knee arthritis and its incidence has risen drastically (Fan et al., 2023). Total hip arthroplasty is a definite treatment of end-stage arthritis and is widely regarded as a safe surgical procedure. Especially in the 2000s, there has been a strong shift towards uncemented total hip arthroplasty in favour of cemented procedure. The aim of this thesis is to review perioperative complications of total hip arthroplasty with emphasis on differences between the uncemented and cemented operations. Literature for this thesis was searched using large scientific databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Elsevier along with other databases. This study thesis shows that total hip arthroplasty is a relatively safe procedure with low mortality. There are some differences in the incidence rate of some arthroplasty-associated complications between cemented and uncemented procedures. Mortality was similar between cemented and uncemented procedures, and the total complication rate seemed to be similar between in cemented and uncemented total hip arthroplasties.en-UK
