Abstract:
The primary aim of this literature review is to deduce whether sunscreen is a safe product to use daily according to the latest scientific literature. The following pages will explore not only the studied benefits (specifically regarding skin cancer) but also the health risks proposed by the scientific community such as vitamin D deficiency, systemic absorption of toxic products, and allergic reactions. Information on various forms of skin cancer (melanoma and non-melanoma skin malignancies), vitamin D synthesis, and the characteristics of sunscreen will be covered followed by the conclusions to the suggested tasks. The conclusions explain why one should use sunscreen, confirm the safety of the product, encourage customizing it to one’s needs, and finally specify the correct way to apply it. Hopefully, this review can help future readers by directing them toward a responsible and effective photoprotection routine.
