Abstract: The title of the master`s thesis is “Political Approach of Argentina to the Belt and Road Initiative.” Argentina is the biggest South American country that has joined the Belt and Road Incitive. Argentina’s and the People's Republic of China diplomatic relations can be traced five decades ago. The states mutual respect and interest towards cooperation is undeniably growing. The states trading and political support for each other is getting stronger and stronger within last ten years. For agriculture goods Argentina is the major exporter to China. China is Argentina’s economical saviour and a hope for the country’s brighter future. On the other hand, China is cooperating with poorer countries and creating a so called ‘debt trap’ with easily accessible and poorly controlled loans that not all countries can repay and therefore possibility of losing countries valuable assets to People`s Republic of China exists. The objective of the thesis is: To understand why Argentina is heading towards China without precautions and ignoring the risk of the ‘debt trap’ within the frame 2013-2023. The research question is: Why is Argentina interested in being part of the BRI?
