Abstract: Pašreiz par pieejamajiem uz mākslu balstītiem izvērtēšanas instrumentiem (UMBII), ar kuriem vērtē mākslas formālos elementus, ir veikti vairāki pētījumi (Betts, 2003, 2005, 2006; Mattson, 2009; Kim et. al., 2012), tomēr minētie instrumenti vēl joprojām atrodas izstrādes procesā.
At present, several studies have been conducted on available art-based assessment tools that evaluate art formal elements (Betts, 2003, 2005, 2006; Mattson, 2009; Kim et. al., 2012), however they are still in development process. In order to promote development of art-based assessment tools and to identify the information currently provided by the use of assessment tools, the following objective of the research has been established: to gather information on art therapy assessment tools, to describe in what study groups the art assessment tools have been used, what instructions have been given to patients, what rating system was used and what are the indicators of validity and reliability. In theoretical justification a description of art therapy assessment tools has been provided and information on their use has been summarized. While making a systematic review, the research materials regarding art therapy assessment tools („The Person Picking an Apple from a Tree“, „The Diagnostic Drawing Series”, „The Bridge Drawing”, „The Face Stimulus Assessment“) in English and Latvian languages have been used. As a search method of the research, the four-phase flow diagram PRISMA 2009 (Moher, et. al., 2009) has been used. To assess the methodological quality of the research, the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (Version – 2018) (MMAT) has been used (Hong, et al., 2018). The methodological quality of the research was evaluated by two independent researchers. In order to obtain the data, a modified version of coding contained in Dona Bets's dissertation (2005) was used (Betts, 2005). The results of the research indicate that existing art therapy assessment tools have been explored in various aspects: several client/patient groups have been evaluated, different instructions have been given, and different rating systems have been provided, created and modified that vary from that indicated in the guide. Validity and reliability indicators were not comparable as they were evaluated in one study and/or compared with different questionnaire or inventory and/or different study groups were used. Consequently, the relevance of art therapy assessment tools, that evaluate art formal elements is questionable at present and, despite the existence of art-based assessment tools guides, their proper application is still unclear.
