Abstract: | Šajā rakstā galvenā uzmanība pievērsta divām galvenajām augu izcelsmes polifenola zāļu savienojumu grupām, tostarp proantocianidīniem un terpenoīdiem, un to ieguvumiem veselībai ar holesterīnu un glikozes homeostāzi saistītās patoloģijās. This paper focuses on two major groups of plant derived polyphenolic medicinal compounds including proanthocyanidins and terpenoids, and their health benefits in cholesterol and glucose homeostasis related pathologies. In this respect, cholesterol metabolism and insulin resistance are shortly introduced and especially the antidiabetic and anti-atherosclerotic molecular effects of polyphenols are reviewed in more detail. Finally, suggestions are given about potential Baltic/Nordic plant taxa containing presented polyphenols. Additionally, some insights are given about possible future research targets such as new drug discovery and development. |
