Negative Effects of Cell Phones on Human Health (Recent Research)

Abstract

KOPSAVILKUMS

Pamatojums: Pēdējās desmitgades laikā eksponenciāli ir pieaugusi mobilo telefonu lietošana, kas šobrīd ieņem būtisku lomu ikdienā, lielākajai daļai pasaules populācijas. Ir izteiktas raizes par iespējamu negatīvu mobilo telefonu ietekmi uz veselību. Starptautiskā Vēža Pētījumu Aģentūra 2011. gadā uzskatīja, ka mobilo telefonu radītā radiofrekvences radiācija iespējams ir karcinogēna, kas noveda pie tālākiem pētījumiem. Citas problemātiskas jomas raisa raizes saistībā ar plaša apjoma tēmām, kā piemēram, reproducēšanos un uzvedības aspekti.

Darba mērķis: Darba mērķis ir veikt literatūras apskatu, lai analizētu jaunākos pētījumus saistībā ar iespējamiem negatīviem veselības efektiem no mobilajiem telefoniem.

Hipotēze: Mobilo telefonu lietošana var novest līdz kaitīgiem efektiem cilvēka veselībai atsevišķās jomās.

Metodes: Literatūras apskats veikts, izmantojot vaicājumus un meklēšanas iespējas PubMed datubāzē, kas bāzēts vispārējā un vairāk specifiskā interešu apjomā saistībā ar pētījuma tēmu. Rezultāti ir apkopoti kopīgi grupās zem noteiktas interešu sfēras.

Secinājumi: Plašs apjoms negatīvu veselības seku tiek ierosinātas no pierādījumiem, kas iegūti no pētījumiem. Heterogenitātes, apsekošanas trūkuma un novērojuma dabas dēļ, vairākos pētījumos, nevar veikt cēloņsakarības secinājumus. Ir nepieciešami tālāki pētījumi.

ABSTRACT

Background: The use of cell phones has increased exponentially over the past decades and are now an integral part of everyday life for the majority of the world’s population. Concerns have long been raised about possible negative health effects of cell phones. The International Agency for Research on Cancer deemed the radiofrequency radiation from mobile phones possibly carcinogenic in 2011 which sparked great research interest. Health effects however encompass several other areas of concern such as reproduction, psychological and behavioral aspects. In order to better understand the wide spectrum of possible effects a broad examination of recent research is necessary.

Aim: The aim of this literature review is to examine the recent research in regard to possible negative health effects of cell phones.

Hypothesis: The hypothesis is that use of mobile phones can have detrimental effects on human health in several different areas.

Method: Literature review conducted via queries and searches on PubMed based on both general and more specific areas of interest in regard to the research topic. Results are presented grouped together under specific areas of interest.

Conclusion: An extensive range of negative health effects are suggested by the evidence provided by the studies. Due to heterogenicity, lack of follow-up and observational nature of most studies, no causal conclusions can be made, and further study of the research topic is needed.
