Kopsavilkums
The study is dedicated to exploring minimally invasive dentistry in the treatment of dental caries in children and examining the attitudes of specialists towards this approach. Despite advancements in modern treatment methods, dental caries in children remains a significant issue that requires gentler approaches to preserve dental health and reduce psychological stress during treatment. Minimally invasive methods have emerged as a widely discussed solution in recent years at international dental conferences and research. In Latvia, this topic has not been extensively studied. The aim of this study was to determine whether Latvian dentists and dental hygienists consider minimally invasive methods to be an effective and appropriate standard for treating dental caries in children. The theoretical part analyzed risk factors for dental caries in children, caries prevalence in Latvia, and various minimally invasive treatment methods, as well as non-invasive techniques. The impact of these methods on children's emotional well-being during treatment and their dental anxiety was also examined. As part of the study, 53 certified dentists and dental hygienists from various dental practices in Latvia were surveyed. The results showed that most specialists regularly use minimally invasive methods, particularly fluoride varnishes and composite sealants, and positively evaluate their effect on children's treatment experience and long-term dental health. However, challenges were also identified, such as insufficient parental awareness and the need for additional training for specialists. A significant conclusion is that minimally invasive dental methods not only improve children's emotional well-being during treatment but also help preserve dental tissues and enhance oral health in the long term. Wider implementation of these methods and increased public awareness of their benefits could significantly improve children's dental health in Latvia.
