Abstract
I report a case review of an one year and nine month year old boy admitted to the Children’s University Hospital Riga due to repeated generalized tonic-clonic seizures in association with acute gastroenteritis symptoms, such as recurrent vomiting and diarrhea. The quick test using latex agglutination of a stool sample revealed the Norovirus ribonucleic acid (RNA), Electroencephalography (EEG) showed multifocal epileptiform activity suspecting acute encephalopathy. Similar cases have been described in the present literature, where it was demonstrated that Norovirus is able to hematogenously disseminate to peripheral sites and manifest in various extra intestinal forms, resulting in e.g. encephalopathy in the primary setting of acute viral gastroenteritis. The research paper is supposed to add knowledge to the present literature about this phenomenon and increase the understanding about the pathogenesis and relation between Norovirus and manifestation of neuroradiological abnormalities.
