Kopsavilkums

The title: Psychosomatic disorders in relation to infertility: the association of anxiety symptoms with infertility in women of childbearing age. The objective: to clarify and analyse the relationship between the anxiety symptom both as a trait and as condition with infertility in women of the reproductive age. Relevance: Infertility is a widespread health problem worldwide that affects many people of reproductive age.Infertility causes significant anxiety, however it still not obvious whether anxiety can cause the occurrence of infertility. Some studies suggest that reducing anxiety using psychological interventions can improve the chances of pregnancy which makes this issue very essential in the field of the reproductive health care. The design of the study: Quantitative cross-sectional study. Methods of the study: Data were collected using the online questionnaire in Google Forms. The sample consisted of 197 women of the reproductive age (22-49 years), 65 from all (33.0 %) reported infertility or difficulty conceiving for longer than 12 months not using contraception, however 132 (67.0%) did not report any of these conditions. The STAI (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory) method was used to define the anxiety level. Data were processed and analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics: descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, independent samples t-test (STAI-T) and the Mann-Whitney U test (STAI-S and total index), as well as calculation of Cohen’s d and r effect sizes. The level of statistical significance is set as p<0.05Microsoft Excel was used for data visualisation and tables’ creation, ensuring the reproducibility of the results and data quality. Conclusions: Women with infertility showed higher anxiety level than women without infertility- both the state anxiety (STAI-S) and the total anxiety (STAI-S+T) were significantly higher. Anxiety as a trait (STAI-T) was also higher in the infertility group, however the difference was insignificant. Infertility among the study respondents showed no connection with socio-demographic factors- no correlation found with the age, educational level, partner’s status or employment. Key words: Infertility , anxiety, trait anxiety, state anxiety, reproductive age, STAI
