Kopsavilkums
As one of the most disabling diseases mainly affecting people with low income in tropical and subtropical regions Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) has been classified as one of twenty Neglected Tropical Diseases by the World Health Organization. Its recognition as being "potentially eradicable" by the "International Task force for Disease Eradication" in 1993 was a main factor for initiation of global initiatives to eradicate LF. The following literature review will outline the main peculiarities of the disease, summarize the current strategies and progress of its control, and discuss the sustainability of existing elimination programs.
