Abstract
Implants are an essential part of the modern world of dentistry. The world of dentistry is developing fast, and thereby also the development of implants. These implants come in all sorts of designs and materials. We can divide them into two main design categories: tapered implants and parallel implants. These different implants both have their specific properties, advantages and disadvantages. In this literature review the differences between parallel and tapered implants are compared to each other. What are the reasons to choose for a parallel or a tapered implant? And what are their advantages or disadvantages? In this literature review also other topics of implants are discussed, which add to a better understanding of implants, and help understand factors that influence the choice for tapered or parallel implants. A literature search of the online databases for appropriate articles was performed.
