Abstract
The aim of this paper is to study practical and theoretical aspects of nutritional therapy in Regional Hospitals of Liepaja and Daugavpils. Both of these hospitals/Regional hospitals are limited in financial resources, therefore it is very important to use nutritional therapy preparations sparingly, and to document all manipulations related to the nutritional therapy process. Many physicians still do not consider nutrition as a medical treatment, but rather as a supportive therapy. Recent studies have shown that early individualised nutrition therapy improves clinical outcomes, treatment effectiveness and shortens duration of stay at the hospital. "Healthy nutrition therapy is particularly important for patients with malnutrition, a condition associated with an increased risk of complications and adverse clinical outcomes. The experience of this study allows to enlight a range of aspects referred to organisation of nutritional therapy which are influencing the creation process and quality. Standardisation and individualisation of the nutritional therapy process will facilitate further research of nutritional therapy, which is vital to maximise the effectiveness of the treatment process, reduce complications and reduce the cost of therapy in hospitals
