Kopsavilkums
Metodes: Respondentu aptaujāšana notika pēc autoru Fong, Tsai un Yiu pētījuma “The Implementation of Telepractice in Speech Language Pathology in Hong Kong During the COVID-19 Pandemic” anketas iztulkotās latviskās, pielāgotās versijas, kas sastāvēja no 25 jautājumiem.
Vairāk nekā puse (n=55; 51,9%) speciālistu savā darbā bija lietojuši telepraksi, turklāt gandrīz visi no tiem bija telepraksi sākuši lietot laika posmā līdz gadam.
Title: The implementation of telepractice in Latvia during the Covid-19 pandemic: speech-language therapist survey. Aim: The present paper aims to find out the knowledge and skills of Latvian speech-language therapists in the use of telepractice during the Covid-19 pandemic. Research problem: What are the knowledge and skills of Latvian speech-language therapists in the use of telepractice during the Covid-19 pandemic? Methods: Respondents were interviewed according to the study of the authors Fong, Tsai and Yiu, “The Implementation of Telepractice in Speech Language Pathology in Hong Kong During the COVID-19 Pandemic”, which was adapted and translated into Latvian to replicate the original version of the questionnaire, which consisted of 25 questions. The electronic survey on visidati.lv platform was implemented in the period from February 23, 2021, to March 23, 2021. All of the data was processed and analyzed by utilizing Microsoft Office 365 Excel and IBM SPSS Statistics 27. Results: 106 speech-language therapists took part in the survey. More than half (n=55; 51.9%) of specialists have used telepractice in their work. Moreover, almost all of them had started using telepractice during last year. Of these 55 specialists, 70% subjectively believed that telepractice was less effective than therapy sessions in person. The remaining respondents (n=51) had not used telepractice because it was not required (68.8%), the patient/client types were inapposite (39.3%), had questionable results by utilizing telepractice (29.4%). Most professionals have not had the previous telepractice-training and would like to receive tech, specific software and courses in telepractice-training. Conclusions: In Latvia, specifically for speech-language therapists, the usage of telepractice in the work field had significantly more importance during the Covid-19 pandemic. Specialists most notably use telepractice in video calls via computers or tablets, and they are remotely able to implement therapy and counselling services. However, the knowledge of specialists in telepractice is not sufficient. Latvian specialists consider that the provision of services in telepractice is less efficient than direct face-to-face services. Telepractice is used more by specialists who are working in private practice and in both – healthcare and educational sectors, though telepractice is used less by specialists who work only in the healthcare sectors.
