Kopsavilkums
Effective team communication and coordination is essential to improve the quality of care and patient safety in the intensive care unit. (Reader, T. W., 2007) Research on communication barriers in medical teams has shown the impact of hierarchical and social factors on staff behavior (Yates AR, 2013). Team members of the intensive care unit need to react quickly and clearly, but due to the communication barriers, the team member may be disoriented, react more slowly, which can complicate teamwork. Communication barriers also reduce the effectiveness of the intensive care unit team. Contradictions, disagreements, collisions of colleagues pose a risk to the patient's health and safety and interfere with overall work. (Murphy, M., 2016) The aim of the research: To find out the existing barriers between the members of the interdisciplinary team of intensive care unit. Research question: Which group of communication barriers is the most common among an interdisciplinary team of intensive care unit? Research method: Quantitative cross-sectional comparative study. Research group: Intensive care unit nurses, doctors / residents, nursing assistants from 1 Latvian hospital participated the study. Respondents were invited to participate in the study on a voluntary basis. The two most common communication barriers in the intensive care unit are physical (21.6%) and psychological (21.6%). According to the results of the study, it can be shown that the staff of the department is disturbed by the environment (noise, loud conversations nearby, monitor signals, etc.) (21.6%), at the same time they are disturbed by colleagues' bad mood (21.6%), 19,6% of employees are disturbed by the exchange of information in a raised tone and lack of time due to too much workload. The work consists of 45 pages, 4 figures, 6 tables and 5 annexes. 46 literature sources were used in the work.
