Kopsavilkums

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to evaluate the extent to which sustainability principles are integrated into the business models of Latvian coffee shop companies and to analyze public perception of these initiatives. The relevance of the study is based on the growing demand for sustainable business practices both globally and locally, including the fact that in 2023 Kalve Coffee became the first Latvian company to receive B Corp certification, marking a new stage in the coffee industry. The research methodology includes a monographic approach for the theoretical framework, content analysis of company reports and public sources, and a quantitative survey to collect consumer perspectives. Companies’ sustainability strategies are assessed using the TLBMC or Triple-Layered Business Model Canvas and LCSA or Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment frameworks, analyzing economic, social, and environmental dimensions across business phases. The results show varying levels of sustainability integration among Latvian companies: some apply structured, multi-layered strategies, while others rely on individual initiatives. The consumer survey reveals a general awareness of sustainability’s importance, but also expectations for greater transparency and proactive actions from companies. Based on the results, the thesis proposes several recommendations to strengthen sustainability in the industry: improving communication with society, better integration of environmental and social aspects into business models, and aligning more closely with consumer expectations — particularly in the context of climate change. Total pages: 85 (excluding appendices), 10 tables, 10 figures, 63 literature sources, 25 appendices. Keywords: sustainable development, business models, sustainable business model, coffee industry, TLBMC, LCSA, consumer perception
