Kopsavilkums
Violence against nurses is a significant and growing issue in healthcare institutions. Workplace violence negatively affects nurses` well-being and job satisfaction. Given the shortage of nurses, it is crucial to understand the relationship between experienced workplace violence and turnover intention, to develop effective preventive strategies to reduce aggression and retain staff. Aim of the study: To explore the relationship between workplace violence and turnover intention among practicing nurses in a fifth-level multidisciplinary medical institution specializing in childcare. Research hypothesis: There is a statistically significant relationship between workplace violence and turnover intention among practicing nurses in a fifth-level multidisciplinary medical institution specializing in childcare. Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive, comparative cross-sectional study. The research used two instruments: “Workplace Violence in the Health Sector Country Case Studies Research Instruments” and the Anticipated Turnover scale. The study included 190 practicing nurses who have been working in a fifth-level multi-profile medical institution specializing in childcare for at least 12 months. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used to analyze the results. Results: 75% of nurses have experienced workplace violence in the past 12 months. The most frequently experienced forms of workplace violence were verbal abuse (64%) and physical violence (25%). Most respondents (68%) had low turnover intention. Statistical analysis revealed that age between 20-29 years and work experience between 1-10 years were statistically significantly associated with higher turnover intention (p=0.001). Statistically significantly higher turnover intention was observed among nurses who had experienced verbal abuse (p= 0.002) and bullying (p<0.001) in the past year. Conclusions: The research identified a statistically significant relationship between verbal abuse and bullying experienced at work and nurses' intention to leave their job. These findings highlight the importance of reducing psychological violence in maintaining nurses’ long-term work motivation and emphasize the need to implement effective violence prevention measures and support methods for employees.
