Pētījuma mērķis bija adaptēt metakognitīvās apziņas novērtēšanas testu (Metacognitive Awareness Inventory, MAI) latviešu valodā. Teorētiskais ietvars balstīts uz Flavella (1979) metakognitīvās uzraudzības modeli, kur metakognīcija tiek izprasta kā indivīda spēja apzināties un regulēt savus kognitīvos procesus, savukārt Schraw un Dennison (1994), MAI autori, apvienoja iepriekšējās pieejas divdimensiju modelī, uz kura balstās arī MAI struktūra.
Pētījumā tika izvirzīti četri galvenie pētījuma jautājumi: (1) kādi ir latviski adaptētās MAI versijas psihometriskie rādītāji – Kronbaha alfa un reakcijas diskriminācijas indeksi; (2) vai instrumenta faktoru struktūra atbilst oriģinālajai testa versijai; (3) kāda ir konstrukta pamatotība, izvērtējot konverģento validitāti ar MSLQ metakognitīvās pašregulācijas skalu; (4) kāda ir instrumenta stabilitāte laikā, novērtējot testu–retestu rezultātus. Papildus tika izvirzīta hipotēze, ka MAI rezultāti būs statistiski nozīmīgi pozitīvi saistīti ar MSLQ metakognitīvās pašregulācijas skalas rādītājiem, apliecinot instrumenta konverģento validitāti.
Pētījumā piedalījās 275 Latvijas iedzīvotāji vecumā no 18 līdz 53 gadiem (M = 23,22; SD = 6,44), no kuriem 80,7 % bija sievietes. Testa–retesta izlasi veidoja 30 dalībnieki. Izlase tika veidota, izmantojot ērtuma izlases principu. Datu vākšana notika tiešsaistē, izmantojot Google Forms platformu. Pētījumā tika izmantoti divi instrumenti: latviski adaptētais Metakognitīvās apziņas novērtēšanas tests (MAI; Schraw & Dennison, 1994), kas ietver 52 apgalvojumus, un Motivētas Mācīšanās Stratēģijas Aptaujas metakognitīvās pašregulācijas skala (MSLQ; Pintrich et al., 1991; latviski adaptēja: Lisovska, 2023), kurā iekļauti 12 apgalvojumi.
Rezultāti liecina, ka latviski adaptētajai MAI versijai ir augsta iekšējā saskaņotība (α = 0,91) un pozitīvas korelācijas ar MSLQ metakognitīvās pašregulācijas skalu, apstiprinot konverģento validitāti. Savukārt faktoru struktūra neatbilda oriģinālajam modelim, kas norāda uz ierobežotu konstrukta pamatotību. Testa–retesta rezultāti uzrādīja labu instrumenta stabilitāti laikā (r = 0,89, p<0,001).
Tika secināts, ka MAI latviešu versija ir psihometriski pieņemama instrumenta iekšējās saskaņotības, stabilitātes un konverģentās validitātes ziņā, tomēr tās faktoru struktūra jāinterpretē piesardzīgi. Ievērojot pētījuma ierobežojumus, instrumentu iespējams izmantot pētniecībā, kas saistīta ar metakognitīvās apziņas izvērtēšanu studentu un pieaugušo izglītības kontekstā.
The aim of the study was to adapt the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) into Latvian. The theoretical framework is based on Flavell’s (1979) model of metacognitive monitoring, where metacognition is defined as an individual’s ability to be aware of and regulate their cognitive processes. Schraw and Dennison (1994), the authors of the MAI, integrated previous approaches into a two-dimensional model, which also forms the basis of the MAI structure. Four main research questions were addressed: (1) What are the psychometric properties of the Latvian version of the MAI—Cronbach’s alpha and item discrimination indices? (2) Does the factor structure of the instrument correspond to the original version? (3) What is the construct validity, evaluated via convergent validity with the MSLQ Metacognitive Self-Regulation Scale? (4) What is the test–retest reliability of the instrument over time? It was hypothesized that MAI scores would be positively and significantly correlated with MSLQ metacognitive self-regulation scores, supporting convergent validity. The study included 275 participants from Latvia, aged 18 to 53 (M = 23,22; SD = 6,44), of whom 80.7% were women. A subsample of 30 participants completed the retest. A convenience sampling method was used, and data were collected online via the Google Forms platform. Two instruments were used: the Latvian version of the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI; Schraw & Dennison, 1994), which consists of 52 items, and the Metacognitive Self-Regulation Scale from the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ; Pintrich et al., 1991; Latvian adaptation: Lisovska, 2023), consisting of 12 items. Results showed high internal consistency of the Latvian MAI version (α = 0,91) and significant positive correlations with the MSLQ scale, confirming convergent validity. However, the factor structure did not replicate the original model, indicating limited construct validity. Test–retest reliability was strong (r = 0,89, p < 0,001). It was concluded that the Latvian MAI version demonstrates acceptable internal consistency, stability, and convergent validity. However, the factor structure should be interpreted with caution. Considering the study’s limitations, the instrument may be used in research evaluating metacognitive awareness in educational contexts among students and adults.
